چکیده

sures experienced by a pipeline can be either beneficial or detrimental from an operational performance perspective, depending on the amount, the two phase regime of the mixture (whether homogeneous or slug) and the nature and cause of the transient. It is generally held that when free (undissolved) air, or gas, is present in a hydraulic system, it can greatly reduce the surge pressure levels because free air in a homogeneous mixture greatly increases the elasticity of the fluid, so reducing the pressure wave speed and enhancing surge damping (Wylie and Streeter, 1978,3 Ewing, 19803.

Experimental and Numerical Simulation of Water Hammer in Water Conveyance Pipeline and Effect of Surge Tower Pipe in Controlling this Phenomenon

Water hammer is one of the unsteady flows in urban water distribution networks, which has been of great importance due to the damage caused to the pipeline and has always been of interest to researchers. In this study, the phenomenon of water hammer due to the sudden closure of the valve in the downstream end has been investigated in a laboratory and using a numerical model. In the laboratory s...

Physical Processes Resulting in Geysers in Rapidly Filling Storm-Water Tunnels

Geysers, which involve the explosive release of water through vertical shafts connected to a nearly horizontal pipeline, have been attributed to either pipeline surge or the release of air. Laboratory experiments involving the release of a large entrapped pocket of air through a surcharged vertical riser indicate that the air can force water upward in the shaft but that a jet such as seen in vi...

Investigation on the Kinematics of Entrapped Air Pockets in Stormwater Storage Tunnels by Carmen Chosie

Various mechanisms can lead to the entrapment of air pockets within stormwater storage tunnels when they undergo rapid filling during intense rain events [Vasconcelos and Wright(2006)]. These entrapped air pockets are linked to operational issues within systems such as damaging surges, storage capacity loss, and severe geysering upon their release through water-filled ventilation shafts. Theref...

Hydraulic Transients Caused by Air Expulsion During Rapid Filling of Undulating Pipelines

One of the main issues arising during the rapid filling of a pipeline is the pressure transient which originates after the entrapped air has been expelled at the air release valve. Because of the difference in density between water and air, a pressure transient originates at the impact of the water column. Many authors have analyzed the problem, both from the theoretical and the experimental st...

The effect of micro/nano-particles on pressure drop in Oil pipeline: Simulation

A high pressure drop happens when heavy oil with high viscosity moves through the oil pipeline. A variety of methods to avoid this pressure drop is available. One of which is injection of chemicals to reduce the viscosity and ultimately reduce pressure drop. Using the pipesim software, the effect of dispersion of nano and micro-particles into the oil has been simulated to study the amount of th...
